NYC Murders Hit Record Low

If you’ve wandered through Times Square at midnight lately, you can vouch for this. 2013 will likely have fewest murders in New York City since records started being kept in 1963. There were 332 murders through December 29, down 20 percent from the 419 murders in 2012. The low number meant that there was, on average, less than one murder per day. Rapes, robberies, and burglaries also fell from 2012. On Wednesday, New York’s new mayor, Bill de Blasio, will take office, along with his newly-appointed police commissioner, William Bratton.
