I recall when in high school I played a game of chess versus my brother then a master chess player. I thought I was doing pretty well, down no pieces, when my brother said, "I don't mean to insult you, but you don't know how to play chess. You just don't react to my openings because you don't see them. You're just pushing pieces around as best you can."

Funny, I ended up teaching chess (and bridge) in the Army a few years later.

Our 9 year old grandson is in the Chess Club at school, enjoying, playing more and more, challenging us all, it's a good thing to get him away from the screens... They grow up fast...

Aha another Chinatown, here in the North Bay SF we can take the Larkspur Ferry across to SF, then a bit of a hike up the hills to Chinatown, where we used to pick up fireworks, today it maybe a little dim sum, snacks, trinkets, before heading back towards the docks, eventually pick up the ferry back towards home..

Always a lot to do in the City by the Bay..
