I read about this in the book,The Holographic Universe
which was published in 1991.So they have known since
the 1980's,possibly 1970's that fake operations have
the same positive outcomes as real operations.....&
25-35 years later their studies reveal the same results,what a surprise!

"A Finnish study published in the New England Journal of Medicine split 146 knee patients aged 35 to 65 into two groups that were given either keyhole surgery or a sham procedure.
They all had tears in the cartilage that had developed gradually, rather than through an acute injury – which previous research has suggested responds well to arthroscopy.
Both groups underwent arthroscopy to confirm the tears, but patients having fake treatment did not have the damaged tissue removed.
They all received anaesthesia and did not know whether their procedure had been real. A year later, the researchers found no significant difference between the two groups and most patients in both groups said their knees felt better – even if nothing had been done for one group."
