I think you were discussing the geometrical use of the word radius.

"The geometric sense first recorded 1610s."

I guess the ancients had a different word for it. Or they used the diameter and halved it.

So it's just a radius. Not a Ra-Dius.

The Ancients had been using Pi for over 4000 years....

nobody knows when the relationship of twice the
radius to the circumference was originally discovered....though it's far from being "modern"
and could in fact be well over 4000 years old.
