Note that I arrived in Houghton, MI about an hour ago (look it up on a map to see exactly where it's at and make sure you look for 'HOUGHTON' and NOT 'Houghton Lake' as it makes a difference of about 200 miles). The drive, which I've done many times, is a bit over 400 miles North from Chicago. While it was cold, 19° when I landed but it got as low as -1° when in the Michigan boondocks, however it was 10° when I got to Houghton (being close to the lake it always a bit warmer than the inland temps). I had clear skies and no snow in the air (there was snow on the ground, but the roads were clear) until I got about 60 miles from my destination, with the last 30 miles being the worst due to blowing snow coming off Lake Superior. I had to drive as slow as 30 mph most of those last 30 miles as there were almost white-out conditions at times, but I made it just fine (I've actually driven up here in much worse weather than this).
