OCU> And what about establishing justice and promoting the general welfare?

Justice.
As in the Supreme Court. Not a problem.

General Welfare - one can make a good argument for
things like the EPA - who's job should be to punish
those who would pollute the drinking water. Or the
FDA - who's job should be to punish unscrupulous
cretins who's products would poison their customers.
I could define this as 'defense against enemies
domestic'.

General Welfare.
I would consider it the governments job to protect
the 'little dude' from predations of the 'rich and
powerful'.

It should be seen as the governments job to protect
me and my assets from the predations of government itself.

The government should not be allowed to seize my
little parcel of land so's some rich turd can build
a mega-shopping-mecca on top of it. And the government
should not be allowed to seize my 'wealth' to give
it to 'poor people' so's they can live high on the hog
without working for it.

Zim.

And what about establishing justice and promoting the general welfare? These are included in the same paragraph as was providing for the common defense. You can't cherry pick the Constitution simply because you don't agree with some of the more progressive concepts expounded therein.
