At Least I know where the Ukraine is. I was there on business once back in April, 1994. Kiev is a very old and once beautiful city but it was a shame that almost nothing was working. We stayed in a Russian hotel and at least everything there seemed to work OK but you could tell that in much of the city the infrastructure was a wreak, but at least they seemed to be working on getting stuff fixed (this was after the Soviet Union had collapsed). To show you what I mean by what was once a beautiful city, the picture below is of the Kyjevo-Pecherska Lavra monastery where the monks had opened a restaurant and we had lunch there one day:

Part of the buildings were in ruin but what was left was very stunning with amazing murals and icons.
