Where do you live....in a cave?
Americans want more gun control in the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre, but they are still wary of outright bans on firearms, a new poll has found.
The USA Today/Gallup poll showed that 58% of Americans favor stronger gun laws, up from 43% last year. That’s the highest measured support since 2004, Gallup said, although it is still much lower than support during the 1990s.
A record-high 47% of Americans also think new gun laws are necessary, as opposed to just enforcing the current laws more stringently.
In addition, the number of Americans who approve of requiring a background check to buy firearms at gun shows has climbed to 92% from 83% in 1999.
But while most Americans, 62%, favor banning the sale of high-capacity ammunition magazines, slightly more than half were opposed to a ban on assault rifles.
Fifty-one percent said they were opposed to making it illegal to make, sell or own semi-automatic guns – nearly unchanged from October 2011.
