Train That Derailed Was Traveling at Excessive Speed, Investigators Say
The Metro-North train that derailed in the Bronx on Sunday, killing four people and injuring dozens more, was traveling at roughly 82 miles per hour at the time of the crash, federal investigators said on Monday, more than double the allowable speed through a curving stretch of track.
Earl Weener, a board member with the National Transportation Safety Board, said that it remained unclear if the speed was the result of human error or faulty equipment.
