One of the people at dinner yesterday, the husband of one of my wife's nieces, is the manager of an Apple store here in Michigan. His store was going to open at 6:00am this morning and he said that he expects to sell something close to $1.2 million in merchandise from his store alone before the doors close tonight.

He was telling us that he was going to have to be at the store around 4:00am to make sure everything was up and ready to go. And during the conversation he mentioned that it was critical that the POS (Point Of Sale) system be up and running at full capacity since it's Apple policy that if their systems goes down when a customer is ready to check-out, that they get their purchase for free. He said the last time that happened in his store he had to give away $22,000 in merchandise which resulted in a significant 'impact' on this performance bonus so he says he's not taking any chances on a day like today.
