Three Girls Imprisoned by Parents
Three girls, ages 12-17, were rescued Tuesday night from their Tucson home, where authorities say they were held as prisoners for two years. The girls’ stepfather, Fernando Richter, 34, and their mother, Sophia Richter, 32, have been charged with kidnapping, emotional abuse of a child, and sexual abuse. Fernando Richter was also charged with one count of sexual abuse with a child under the age of 15. According to Tucson Police Capt. Mike Gillooly, the two younger girls escaped to a neighbor’s house and said their stepfather had kicked in their bedroom window and threatened them with a knife. Gillooly found a third girl in the bedrooms. All the girls were reportedly malnourished and extremely dirty, and they said they hadn’t bathed in four to six months.
