I made it back driving through the pitch black Indiana countryside between Chicago south and Indianapolis, around the beltway, and south again on interstate 74 toward cincy, and again, another 40 miles around the beltway to home and my wife.
That was a little scary as it was very black outside and running at 73 mph things happen pretty quickly.
The meetings were successful and in the vein of to be continued as we look into more answers on the first meeting with a former steel supplier and a little better than that with my powder coating supplier.
I have a firm offer from the powder coating supplier to be a sales engineer/rep for them from my house in this area and as far as I care to go.
It would be a base salary to be determined and then commissions on all accounts I bring in.
I simply will need a minimum requirement at the base salary. If that doesn't happen, then this deal is toast. Had a great meeting with my longtime friends here and we left it at this point and agreed to get back together via PHONE and work out details after the Thanksgiving holidays.
I kind of like this as it would put me in a different arena doing something I actually enjoy, meeting other people and adding accounts.
Since I have 26 years of hands on application with this Powder Coating, and having tried other brands, I have total confidence in the consistent quality of the product and the ability of the company to maintain that easily.
I LOVE sales. I Love manufacturing as well.
NOW, I have one more dilemna.
Got a call last night from another long time acquaintance from Houston who told me that if his project he is working comes through, in about two weeks he needs me to drive about 40 miles a day to his plant in Hillsboro Ohio in order to set up operations there to mass produce this enormous project he has been working on. He does not trust anyone he has working there to do this because he knows I am an expert in production fabricating and sheet metal and wants me to set this up and run it.
This should begin about two weeks into December.
So,
what the heck do I do now???????
I would like to do ALL three.
Should I express this to all three companies?
I am open to suggestions. The thing with the steel company is not definite. It is only being explored.
However, I am looking at long term employment and stability.
The powder company has that. I would operate as a Sole proprietorship business with 1099's.
I believe my only additional expenses would be the FULL amount of FICA (employer AND employee share) and purchasing some health care plan for my wife and I.
THIS I think can be built into the base salary requirements.
Maybe I can start the new production project in December, get it rolling and then become part time over seer????
The powder coating sales job would not begin until after January 2 anyway.
Your thoughts are appreciated as I am in a real dilemma now.
