BAP,

Like V-golf, "I have got to start reading ahead". lol!!!

Okay, it looks like you found the option on the windows 7 disk to repair startup and that and everything else on there did not work.

So, the question remains, is this the Windows XP 64 bit operating system on this computer????

Noting wrong with installing XP but if it is the XP 64 bit, make sure you use that disk.

also, when you boot to CD and let it run through to the point on install, it should ask you if you want to repair this operating system.

YES you do. This way it will not mess up your programs on your computer but will re-install your operating system with new files.

Does this make sense to you? I hope so!

the best,

micro....

micro,

Computer ran for a while then repeated boot failure. Inserted Windows 7 CD. "Repair your

computer." "Restore your computer using a system image you created earlier." Next, "Windows

cannot find a system image on this computer."

"Search for a system image on the network." Here I got stuck. Went back.

"Startup Repair." That failed. Message: "DEL to enter setup" or ESC to enter boot menu.

Entered CMOS Setup.

Did nothing. Entered Boot Menu. Chose to boot from CD. Windows started loading files.

Chose English language.

Booting from CD. Windows is loading files. Selected English. Repair your computer. Select an operating system to repair. Selected Startup repair. Failed. Selected System Restore. Restart computer to select an operating system. Apparently there is no Windows 7 on this CD.
Maybe I should give up and try to install XP.
