We have seen our recent price decline begin on the day the Supreme Court denied Nokia (October 15th). That day ended red after touching nearly $40. Makes no sense.
There have been 22 trading days since then. 5 resulting in the stock finishing green. In that time there has been a massive earnings beat, along with recognition of revenue from Intel, arbitration wins resulting in positive clarity of Apple agreement and more revenue from Pegatron with upwards Q4 earnings projection.
I don't believe that the shorts have insight into the courts otherwise short interest would have been at record highs and not historical lows before the ALJ decision in late June.
Is this an astroturf effort being led by an institutional holder in order to suppress the stock price in order to win the investment banking business of an acquirer?
Is it an offshore hedge fund being fed information from one the sued respondents who are giving them heads up about their legal strategy or forcing favorable settlement by attacking the stock price?
Or is it a fund(s) and/or institutional holders whose "short funds" has been increasing their position because overall markets are seeing an increase in "short" demand ... This price decline is odd and maddening but not worrying ... just needs to stop.
