I keep losing my hard drive, and can't for the life of me figure out why. This was the same reason I swapped the motherboard on this thing, I was convinced it was the issue, but it is doing the same thing.
Swapped motherboard, swapped power supply today, swapped hard drive with a known good one, and swapped cabling to brand new - same result. The only other I can think of is the processor, but I can't for the life of me understand why/how that would make my hard drive disappear.
The new hard drive seemed fine - Windows loaded, updated all drivers that came with the mobo, rebooted when that was done, and no drive was found when it rebooted. Unplugging the drive and plugging it back in and rebooting got it visible again in BIOS, then when it booted to windows,I got a Winload.exe is missing error.
Windows recovery couldn't fix it, and no bootable media / tools that I have in my arsenal could fix it (UBCD, etc).
I am now installing windows for the 4th time this evening, this time I unplugged my secondary drive just to try something different, and so far so good - but too early to tell. That drive is a 1.5TB drive, with a partition on it so half is for data, half for backup images.
I was kicking around that maybe the total number of partitions was causing issues, but then I remembered that I have that in there for years with no issues.
I'm stumped.
