Part Two...

I'd come home, grabbed a beer, ready to watch the game... Damn recliner rock n rolled, but didn't stop! Then I began to hear the house creaking, nails squeaking.. I was up, in the doorway, ready to hop out if i had to, big Alders in the back yard were shaking like mad... then it eased up... So I came back in, watched the rest if the news as it hit the SF Bay Area.. Luckily it was late enough, all our WeCo guys were off the roads, past the Cypress Collapse... All of us had been in that lower section for years, my brother & family lived just South, so many trips over the years... Terrible day...

The Loma Prieta earthquake, also known as the Quake of '89 and the World Series Earthquake, was a major earthquake that struck the San Francisco Bay Area of California on October 17, 1989, at 5:04 p.m. local time. Caused by a slip along the San Andreas Fault, the quake lasted 10--15 seconds and measured 6.9 on the moment magnitude scale (surface-wave magnitude 7.1) or 6.9 on the open ended Richter Scale. The quake killed 63 people throughout northern California, injured 3,757 and left some 3,000-12,000 people homeless.
