Iran is a Shiite nation. Al Qaeda and most terrorists are Sunnis. Iran does sponsor Hezbollah, an adversary of Israel in Lebanon. This support confuses many Iranians. Israel and the United States are currently on a jihad against Shiites. A useful book about Iran is "A Honeymoon In Tehran". You might consider it to gain insight, although I gave it only a B-.
