Clo:

Many American companies used to feel commitment to their employees, IBM being the one I am most familiar with. Now workers, especially higher-priced American workers, are an unfortunate business expense like utility bills or office furniture.

It's a Brave New World. Sometimes I'm glad I'm old. I don't think I could tolerate the demeaning interview process new hires face these days. I know of youngsters with good, solid backgrounds being humiliated and told they are not qualified or needed. Can't imagine how flawed candidates are going to make it. The superfluous common man is becoming a tragedy.

KTC;

Germany doesn't fire/layoff employees like we do.
Makes all the difference!
