Hi Cactus Flower,

I wonder if it stems from the USA's relative 'youth?'

We are a young nation, and much like the new kid in school feel a need to prove our strength & savvy.

Especially when many seen dependent on our might.

Some food for thought~ ;))

hi clo,

thanks. yes. i was struck by it but i knew you'd said it in passing and i wanted to take the thought along a ways.

the exceptionalism thing is weirdly toxic. it's annoyingly comparative. i never understand the need for folks to assert betterness. i thought we'd all learnt how destructive this is along the way. it's different to non-comparative pride.
