hitkc,

you see strength in the bombing syria regardless of congress option?

strength for who? america? or just the presidency?

i see submission to congress as a useful precedent in a country that is inclined to resort to the use of military solutions where other ones are better.

finding ways to restrain us presidents is surely a useful thing as the position seems to bring out a need to dominate that isn't especially helpful.

do you want an unbridled president? i sure don't.

So Putin provides BO an opportunity to save face. BO has boxed himself in, at least in the public's perception, so I hope he takes it. IMO his only other choice is to strike regardless of Congress's vote. To do nothing renders the "bully pulpit" toothless for himself and potentially for his successors. He reminds me of Jimmy Carter, just too nice a guy - doesn't want to offend anybody, believes others will do the right thing. He doesn't appear to like using his power, rather prefers to be trusting and hopefull others will do as he does - the right thing. Unfortunantly it's not realistic. Certainly he is not a strong President. Poor negociator, too quick to conceed in an effort to compromise. Like Carter a gentle pious-type guy. So sad that is a weakness. But it is.
