The Corporate bean counters hate long term commitments, IBM in particular has no Contracts with their workers, whether skilled trades, techs, engineers or management, heavy anti-Union, they want to be able to freely screw over everyone equally! Others, like WeCo, have been Union since the beginning, and all the Contracts negotiated, flowed uphill into Engineering, management, we got a raise, they got a raise... Defined pensions, now a thing of the past, other than the few left on the rolls... Managers, once retired, as one of my old bosses said, "his Contract was written on the wind", so they blew off all spousal coverage, death benefits, screwed 'em every way they could... They are not happy... Meanwhile, those of us that were under Contract, still are, even tho WeCo/LU has been sold off to Alcatel...
IBM is just playing to form... What they always have done...
