Nokia could purchase InterDigital, keep it a separate legal entity (ie. Rockstar) incorporated in Pennsylvania, Delaware or Mars for all I care, and use InterDigital's unencumbered patents as a howitzer against Apple and Samsung all to the benefit of Microsoft.

Again, Nokia being an insider knows the collective legal strategy which they use with Samsung against InterDigital and could cripple Samsung (and the "Others") by knowing exactly how to dismantle and destroy that same legal game plan because they have (and wrote) the Playbook!

Somewhere I read that Nokia's patent trove is largely encumbered currently. With the Apple license soon to expire ours is much less so. Another plus to them in acquiring IDCC?
