Just because the rebels are behaving badly doesn't excuse what Assad has done.

...what evidence do you have that assad has done anything?

"So what" matters!!!!!

Just because the rebels are behaving badly doesn't excuse what Assad has done. The rebels are mainly attacking Assad's forces while Assad is attacking everybody.

There are rebel forces--the free Syrian army--that we could arm and support. Arms are flowing into
Syria from everywhere to Assad and the rebels alike and our friends in the conflict are operating at a distinct disadvantage. Do you think that Putin and the Iranians are not backing Assad with arms and other support?

The rebel forces are not using Sarin gas and Assad is using Sarin gas so he should be severely punished for it.

Others are going to continue to be killed whether we punish Assad or not so that is a dead argument. Would you rather punish Assad or risk seeing more and more pictures of children dying by the use of his Sarin gas. It would be nice if all of this commotion over his used of it deterred him from more of it but we all know that after the hubbub dies down he will simply employ it again sooner rather than later.

If Assad doesn’t learn from our discipline then he will simply get more of it.

Yes, we should go this alone if that it what it takes.

We didn't displace those Syrians, Assad displaced them.

If we allow gas to be used we will be opening the door for its use everywhere by those just waiting for the cue to employ it.

Clo, you not mentioning that pictures used are a year old is the equivalent of supporting George W. Bush's use of faulty intelligence to make his case for war in Iraq. There are no good options in the Middle East but the use of gas overcomes all of them. To ignore it is to validate all the use of gas in the past including Saddam's gassing of the Kurds a number of years ago. We live in a new century now and if we do not support some of the best parts of what came out of the prior century then we risk a time of extremes such as gas that will replicate the worst of what came out of the last century. Gas is a weapon of mass destruction and there are others such as nuclear weapons that can be employed just as well. To condone the use of one is to condone the use of all of them!!!!!
