Yup. The animosity, the nuclear program, and the faith all alienate mercans from persians, but the fact is they do have a form of democracy, they are a very stable state, and a productive state sanctions notwithstanding. The results of elections in that country do impact policy, not as much as in some other places, but much more than in some other places as well. So it comes back to the nuclear program, the Israelis, and the whole effort it seems to foster a greater Shia-run-from-persia empire in the region. But even that may be the way to go, were it not for the whole Israel thing and some over-the-top faith-by-sword expansionism.

The mercans just lost it when they came up with this neocon fantasy that sacking iraq was in their interests. Dumbest geopolitical move by merca since, ... well, I can't think of a more substantial blunder in treasure, lives, reputation, and actual power in the area in question.

Hi clo,

The US calculation for the last few years seems to be to see if democracy has any roots in the ME.

I think they are finding that roots don't grow so well in desert pastures. Which is sad for everyone.

If Iran finds its way away from fundamentalism and back to democracy, strange as it may seem, perhaps it represents the best model available.
