Hi dig,
Absolutely.
But for me, the surrounding environment changes the meaning of everything.
I was living in a probable cause universe.
Post-Snowden, I am living in a relevant information one.
In a probable cause universe, so long as I act without suspicion, my digital home is my castle.
In a relevant information universe, government access to the keys kills the reasonable expectation of privacy. Indeed, it tightly attaches the user to the information they are storing or communicating.
Can you write an email to your attorney in the relevant information universe? Can you have a candid discussion with your accountant? Can a challenger expect privacy when trying to replace a political incumbent?
There's a vast and proper frontier of argument between individuals and governments. If the government crosses it with impunity, the system fails.
