Letter to the editor in today's Post-Dispatch--
George Will’s world
George Will writes that we cannot afford food stamps for the hungry. We cannot afford Social Security or Medicare for seniors. We cannot afford the wages and benefits that created the middle class since WWII, and we cannot afford the pensions they were promised that would allow the middle class to continue to live comfortably. We cannot afford health care for every citizen. We cannot afford to rebuild roads, bridges, public buildings and water and sewer lines.
The only things we can afford are the million-dollar salaries/bonuses of executives and entrepreneurs who outsourced our manufacturing, looted our banks and buried their treasure like pirates in the Caribbean.
