i get it. but i think he is a weak negotiator. so he has to experience pressure to push him in the right direction. and he is prone to want to do big things. so his mistakes can be rather grand eg sequester.
he's been disappointing largely because he failed to address the thing he was really qualified to do. review the structure of government.
when he missed his chance, his presidency was doomed to be far less consequential than it could have been.
to be fair, though, he inherited such a mess he didn't have much of an opportunity. except right at the beginning.
