but everyone wants thinking republicans in charge of their party. it's a weak democracy that has no choices in it.
at the moment, democrats have people to vote for.
but the republican party is a disaster.
surely there's a place in the spectrum for institution-preserving but cautious incrementalists. the folks who once were called conservatives before ideologues stole the name. perfectly respectable and pragmatic political stance which is often going to be sensible in its thinking. but that no longer exists in the political spectrum.
