Hi Cactus Flower,

Sooo true!
gerrymandering has been very destructive to functional government. The Supreme's added insult to injury with Citizens United...

When the 'founding fathers' wrote THE Constitution their world & the problems they were facing and preparing for are FAR Different then today.

And with the NSA ease dropping programs, HOW 'free' IS free speech?

hi clo,

unfortunately, doing nothing is exactly what the republicans wish to do during a democratic presidency.

all these votes on obamacare aren't doing nothing. they consume time. they get in the way of attempts to legislate anything else while giving the appearance of doing something.

the constitution doesn't guarantee a right to legislate when the other party wants to make legislation impossible and holds a majority some place.

essentially the country is hostage to their desires. they see things like obamacare and social security as existential issues for their party. so they are going to continue with this angle. they want to destroy all the safety nets the government provides replacing this with their own species of brutalist social darwinism.

the most significant event in the recent election was that the republicans gerrymandered the house. not much will be achieved in o's second term unless that changes.

and of course the supreme court has slanted elections to make the influence of incumbent wealth even more critical.

i could say the constitution has serious problems which have been thoroughly exposed, but then it would guarantee general silence rather than discussion!! i think that piece of paper is too sacred by half.
