...the folks who fought against civil rights were mostly democrats. The longest filibuster against the civil rights act of 1964 was conducted by a still-sitting senator, Robert C. Byrd, who personally spoke against the legislation for 14 hours and 13 minutes on June 9 & 10, 1964. He was a Democrat.
