My understanding is that Ambassador Indyk is well respected by BOTH sides and that he has a reputation as a very qualified and fair negotiator. Besides, if Kerry had appointed a Christian, to many Muslims, that would have been as good as a Jew. And if he had gone that route, we could have got the likes of a Michele Bachmann or a Bill O'Reilly or even a Rick Santorum, hardly the points of view which would have instilled confidence in the minds of anyone looking for a fair hearing when it came to dealing with Muslims or even Palestinians.
