(CNN) -- Firefighters in Philadelphia were responding to a building collapse Monday morning, the city's fire department said.
Witnesses told CNN affiliate KYW that they heard an explosion and smelled gas after the blast.
A baby was thrown out a window into the arms of a firefighter, one witness told the CNN affiliate.
Firefighters hosed down other victims who had burn injuries, the witnesses said.
Several people, including a child, were taken to a hospital, KYW said. At least three houses were damaged, it said.
Aerial footage of the scene showed a large pile of rubble in what appeared to be a residential area with multistory buildings.
