the way i think of the whole equality thing runs along these lines.
i don't like a model that results in gross inequality.
nor one that demands equality.
so i'm usually looking for solutions that avert the former but don't try to produce the latter.
all those arguments about individualism and socialism leave me cold. not sure why i shouldn't want both individual opportunities and public goods in some mutually supportive arrangement.
they are usually layers of the onion rather than competing operations.
