Yes. But welfare helps to destroy families. Just as Gay rights help to destroy families. When I was young, the mother and father worked to earn a living for the family. The kids were raised to respect their parents and most adults. My grandmother lost my grandfather to wounds from WWI and lost most of her money to the collapse of a bank. She lived with us and cooked and raised us kids while Mom and Dad earned the money to pay the bills. Why? Because family, not government, took care of family.
Welfare started out as a short term government assistance program to help families get back on their feet. It now is cradle to grave and some families have lived off it for generations. At some point it will reach a tipping point where there are not enough tax payers to cover the pay out. After that point the government will take over and force people to work. There will be the government elite and the masses. Did you ever hear of socialism and communism? That is the path America has been on for 80 years. The slow path is working because Americans own guns and cannot be forced down the fast path. The government is moving farther and farther in that direction. Part of that path is the grabbing of guns to disarm the population. At the same time the family needs to be broken up and morals need to be destroyed. If children are not taught right from wrong, then they can be taught to accept big government.
Kids who are 'dumbed down' cannot read history and do not know they should be able to take care of themselves. But then, why work if you can get 'free' money from the government?
