The notion of portions of a state seeking to succeed from the rest of a state are not new, these days in CO

http://www.upi.com/blog/2013/07/12/Northern-Colorado-wants-to-secede-from-Colorado/6201373649419/

I'm not used to the notion being driven from the right, W.WA wanted to leave E.WA cause they were getting sick of E.WA (which is more like Idaho than Seattle) 'holding the state hostage to the far right'. Demographics seems to have taken care of that, W.WA now wins most politicla issues in the state, so they are happy.

NoCA has often wanted to leave SoCA, but that was mostly when SoCA was run by Orange County ... but demographics changed that and now Jerry Brown of all people, unimaginable in the 90s is Gov again, so they are happy.

My limited experience with intrastate succession is the left trying get rid of the right. But I don't really have any idea what is going on in GA e.g where I could imagine much of the state feels they could do without Atlanta ... but that lacks the geographical cohesion the arguments out west had (the Cascade mountains in WA or the sheer NtoS size of CA.

So in CO a half a dozen counties in the North, lacking any real geographical definition want their guns and want to exploit their natural resources without Denver or Boulder weighing in. It seems a couple counties in neighboring state would be happy to join.

The population centers with all their votes do need improve on solving things for rural areas instead of just imposing things (resource exploitation), but this gun thing is never going to go away. The rust state cities versus the Ohio river valley, the rural West versus its urban centers, and apparently white men against everybody else.
