I can't personally tell if awk is an intelligent stupid guy or a stupid intelligent guy, but I can't get through a description without the word stupid in there somehow.
In some ways it reminds me of Australopithecus boisei or Homo neanderthalis, both were remarkably successful and good at what they did ... but staggeringly oblivious to the reality around them. Their knowledge and skill at what they were good at blinded them to understanding that there was plenty they did not know, plenty they were not good at, and considerable peril in the monotony and certitude of their honed skill set.
Or awk is flipping shares like mad and sitting on a very big pile of gold.
One or the other.
