"It puts us at odds with about 3/4 of the world which will not promote mutual understanding."
Most of that 3/4 is not all that friendly with us to start with.

As if people weren't already "conflicted" before the ruling, eh?

And how does that apply in a nation with a Constitution whose 1st Amendment declares that it's to be free of religious dictates and impositions?
"It make a 5-4 decision by a severely divided Supreme Court the law of the land."
And how is this any different than the hundreds of other 5-4 decisions by this and all the past courts?
"What happens if we get a conservative court majority in four years, especially if most states still do not endorse gay marriage.'
In four years the number of states which recognizes same-sex marriages will have doubled, if not more than that.
"Will the ruling be taken as promoting a gay life-style and lead to an explosion of sexual experimentation among the young, the stupid, and the sexually active and curious?"
I'm sure the same concerns were being expressed in some parts of this country back in 1967 when the court handed down its decision in Loving vs Virginia.
"Will it further erode men's ability to be effective heads of houseold which has already been damaged."
If people feel that strong about this, why hasn't anyone suggested that we outlaw divorce? After all, this is also a "religious and societal" issue.
"I haven't put much thought into this. My family supported the decision."
As does most people in America.
