Saint Madern (Madron) of Cornwall
Feast day: May 17
(Patron of Cures for Pain and of Relief from Pain)
St. Madern was a monk and hermit of Cornish descent, but he is also honored in Brittany, France. Numerous churches in England bear his name. The reputed site of his hermitage, St. Madern's Well, near the English town of Penzance, is still a popular pilgrimage destination. Many miracles are ascribed to Saint Madern, but little is known about him except for the dedications in Cornwall and Brittany. While on earth St. Madern was known to cure pain, and this gift has carried on for petitions in his name since his death c.545.
Saint's Prayer
Out of pagan darkness in the land of Cornwall thou didst shine as a witness to Christ. Holy hermit Madern, entreat Him that the light thou didst kindle may ever shine in our hearts. -Troparion of Saint Madern
