Weco:

When I was a youngster, in my first serious job in upstate NY, I went out exploring (whoring) on a Friday evening, and ended up, half drunk, in a black neighborhood in Hudson NY. I was out of place, white in my suit and tie, when a huge black man approached saying "Hey there brother, what cha doin.". I recall because "brother' in those days was an uncommon term, used in my experience only by my father on a regular basis (Fatherhood of God, brotherhood of man stuff). Well, he hosted me around that town till Saturday afternoon. A memorable, positive experience. I have had many dealings with minorities over the years, with no negative experiences whatsoever. There were zero minorities living in my hometown growing up, although there were a few Protestants - We thought they were pretty exotic.

When I was a kid I flew into Chicago to go to DeVry Tech... Cabby told me tales of all the bodies in the streets from overnight battles... Nice...

Then there was the day I grabbed the wrong bus after a trip to the Science Museum, missed my buddies, (stuck on the CTS) and headed deep into South Chicago.. Got darker and darker, nobody would sit next to me, but a little old lady finally did, told me to see the driver, get a pass back up North.. Sure enough, he laughed, punched up a pass, showed me at the next stop what bus to grab.. Took nearly a couple hours to get back up to the Loop, catch my NW train out on the Elevated to where I was living, a brownstone off Belmont... Adventure in America...
