hi tkc,

i'm describing probable cause, which is the definition of a compromise solution. you can surveil people who give grounds for suspicion. you cannot surveil those who do not.

that is actually us law. the reason the powerful folks say surveillance isn't used against americans is because they know the fourth amendment makes it very clear they are not permitted to mount surveillance on the whole population.

it will be a nudge and a wink thing that means minions actually do look into records of anyone they choose. and then the powerful folks will call those minions bad apples if they are caught. the usual game.

except that snowden has exposed it.

I don't think it's that simple CF. I don't see this as a choice between black or white, either/or - there will be a gray solution. I understand sticking to principle. "Give me liberty or give me death" was fine for Nathan Hale. It's a false choice to me - I want more options. I wish my grankids a full life, if that requires some restrictive intrusion w/i established perimeters and effective oversight I'll consider that as an option.
