doma, that is a gorgeous line:
"You are 2000 times more likely to kill yourself
than be killed by a terrorist attack..."
but somewhere, when I was rather young I recall it said or somebody saying 'suicide is the ultimate expression of individual liberty (or freedom)' or something like that. Crap, it might be His Highness, Kurt Vonnegut, he certainly dwelled on suicide, and was obviously personally affected by it ... but I digress. Returning to digression, I googled/goggled "suicide is the ultimate expression of individual liberty" and sure enough found the exact quote on a gun blog:

So you are comparing acts of freedom (we put folks in jails on suicide watch, we take even that from them) to acts of the complete opposite, terrorism, where the choice of life or its lack is foisted upon folks unwillingly.
Some see surveillance as an acceptable evil in order to protect themselves from others making a life choice for them.
Finally, I think what is missed in this, and what might wake people up, is we are not talking phone calls ... all activity, all credit/debit card use, all bank use, all internet surfing behavior, everywhere you have every been (to within a couple of meters) if you carry a smartphone. This collection of data, this Untrusted Matrix is untrustable, and yet it appears trusted by the majority. It is not just the content of your communications, but who you communicate to. The junkie you might be trying to help out, the uncle you had no idea carried national secrets or trafficked in child porn (I just elevated this post to snoop software "national secrets" "child porn" and earlier with "individual liberty"). Just to make sure my content gets the attention it deserves here it comes ..... ' bomb '. Were I to mention a Wave product, Embassy, so close to the previous entry ... oh my, dig a hole atomic bob!
