hi clo,

i think he has tried to tread a tightrope. and thought conceding to a dull idea of exceptionalism was worth it.

but he seems to have ended up changing as he donned its symbols.

i thought he was a humanist. whilst it is fair enough to represent us interests squarely, i don't think you can be both a humanist and an exceptionalist.

exceptionalism is the delusion of folks whose thinking has become corrupted by arrogance. think of jewish notions of the chosen people and the goyim, or moslem notions of believers and infidels. think of athenian and roman citizenship and the concept of the barbarian peoples. remember the white man's burden and arian supremacy. this is the family that exceptionalism belongs to.

perhaps not the fraternal relationships most people want to have.

humans are just a species of critter. always best to remember this. we need rehumbling.

Cactus Flower,

That's the funny thing, of all the recent presidents, Obama HAS tried to 'equalized' our 'ego' (to his own detriment) Many accusing him of apologizing for America.

It's always galled me when the 'president' closes any public appearance with 'God bless America.'

I remember when Obama was running, he didn't where a 'flag pin,' and after enough folks accused him of NOT being patriotic, he's worn one ever since...
as if wearing a pin make a difference.................

Some people are real airheads, why cater to them???
