Hi clo,

so the real problem is the destruction of america's reputation overseas.

for goodness sake, don't compromise privacy in the us. but it's okay for the us to spy on everyone else.

the way everyone else resolves the double standard is to use non-american services. or will be.

hence the secrecy.

al qaeda knows not to use electronic services. their worry is surely that the mass of overseas people will discover what the us government is up to and in consequence the us will lose its dominance of ecommerce.

the ongoing trouble the us finds itself in is that it treats itself as special. if it could only normalise itself and recognise that the human condition is universal - and escape from the awful notion of exceptionalism - it might regain perspective.

if breaches of privacy are abhorrent to americans, they are abhorrent to everyone.

this is how us global imperium ends.

Hi Cactus Flower,

Since 9/11 a majority of Americans are willing to forgo privacy for the sake of stopping terrorists.

For the record, I was opposed to The Patriot Act.
And while I have more confidence in Obama than GWB, once these powers are given NO president wants to give them back.
I always ask myself, what if a 'Cheney' was in office.............OMG!

After the Boston bombing Americans were asking WHY the government wasn't aware of the radicalization of the brothers prior...(we have an instant gratification problem)

A recent poll shows they/we support drones, even though they create more ill will towards America.

Mostly, the press, Libertarians & some others are questioning these policies.

Friday, June 07, 2013

A new poll by NBC News and the Wall Street Journal finds that 66 percent of Americans surveyed overwhelmingly support the use of drone strikes to kill suspected terrorists.

Only 16 percent opposed the use of unmanned aircraft while 15 percent said they did not know enough information to make a decision.
