President Obama will announce Monday that he has chosen Jason Furman as his nominee to replace Alan Krueger as chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers, a White House official said.
Obama will make the announcement at 2:10 p.m. at the White House, joined by Furman, the current principal deputy director of the National Economic Council, and Krueger.
If confirmed by the Senate, Furman would likely be a top adviser as the president chooses a new chairman for the Federal Reserve to succeed Ben Bernanke, whose term expires next year.
