Rafael Nadal Repeats as Men’s Champion at French Open

Rafael Nadal of Spain captured his eighth French Open title on Sunday, defeating his fellow countryman David Ferrer, who was making his first Grand Slam final appearance.

Nadal beat Ferrer 6-3, 6-2, 6-3 to join Serena Williams in the 2013 winner’s circle. The win gave Nadal his 12th Grand Slam title, which moved him into a tie for third place with Roy Emerson behind Roger Federer’s 17 and Pete Sampras’ 14.

Nadal has been almost unstoppable at Roland Garros — he has won 59 of 60 matches. He has never lost a final at Roland Garros and has beaten Ferrer 20 times in their 24 meetings.
