"Albraira also sounds Hispanic. (EEK!)"

Bingo!

Abraira, the city's first Hispanic chief, was also the first hired from outside the department's own union. He led the Dallas department and was an assistant chief in Miami before coming to Boston in 2011.

Hi Clo:

This is not a major story in Boston. I have no insight, but suggest it has more to do with Abraira being from
outside of Boston, outside of the Boston Fire Department, and outside the Firemen's union,
rather than his competence. Firefighters will resist reform. Albraira also sounds Hispanic. (EEK!)

Believe it or not, Boston firefighters earn more than Chicago school teachers, and even more than toll-takers
on the Mass. Pike. (median compensation $95,000 per year).
