The mask has come off the Republicans.

The mask came off when the 47% video came out during the campaign. Republicans DO view 47% of the country as lazy takers who suck off the hard work of Good Republians (some of whom are actually retired and no doubt taking social security BUT if they live off the government dole and are Republicans then THEY are still somehow "producers" while their Democrat neighbor down the street living off the same dole are the "takers").

Republicans actually hold half the country in disdain. They actually despise half the country. Imagine that!

They cling to their gay bashing, their hate and their delusions that the ONLY reason they don't have more is because somewhere a worker is getting union benefits or somewhere a person in a wheelchair is getting a government subsidy for food.

They HATE half the country. They mock those who are not rich. They sell fear and ignorance.

THEN they expect to win elections! "Hey, you lowlife parasites, vote for us because we think Paris Hilton needs more money! Hey, don't worry about your job or the economy of thirty years of failed supply side policies, you should worry that GAYS ARE GETTING MARRIED!!!!!!!"

Even THAT doesn't work anymore....the whole "OMG GAYS GAYS GAYS GAAAAYYYYYYYYY" has run its course through most of the country. The old guard gay haters are dying off, being replaced by young people who don't care as much about someone's private life.

The Republicans, by virtue of the Tea Baggy Extremists, are dying as a party. Yes, they have their what, 28% (the number who believe an armed revolution may be needed soon).

At this time....with some of the nutjobs being the power brokers (see, Koch)....is it even possible for the Republicans to back off from their fringe beliefs and policies? Is there even a chance they can get some adults to run their party again?

I don't know.

I do know they are quite destructive to our country as a whole. I do know they claim to be "patriots" while they actively hate almost half the country! Fact is.....the Republicans will continue to lose if their only path to victory is gerrymandering (the way the held the House, by the way) and trying to restrict the right to vote. They need to loosen up, and I hope they DO become a "big tent."

But those are wishes. The Republican Party has become the party of the Tea Bag, the party of Rush Limbaugh, and they are NOT going to change. Change would mean an admission of something being wrong!

When have you ever heard a Republican admit they were wrong?
