CF,

What you say is true. However, the conservatives have been the ones bringing up the deficit, not the progressives. Also, what you have said has been scattered throughout my writing for many years now!

Regards,

Joe

Hi j-t,

I think the hate on the right derives from dogmatic certainty.

They are certain of all sorts of things that are nonsensical. This is why they are also certain that folks who point out those facts which show that their theories are nonsensical are also the subject of their ire.

Reagan's trickle down economics in fact led to inequality. The rich got richer. The poor stayed poor. And even those in the middle failed to keep pace with productivity gains.

Lowering taxes doesn't lead to more revenue. It leads to deficits.

Charity withers when economies are weak.

Regulation is the basis of property rights and markets; and the absence of regulation is the cause of many calamities.

But when you say "even the great conservative issue--the deficit", you are saying something that is plain wrong. The deficit isn't their issue. They don't care about the deficit. They care about shrinking government. They ballooned the deficit in order to have a way to shrink government. They will use whatever means that is available to do so.

If at some point the government has a surplus, they will argue that this is also a reason to reduce tax rates and shrink the government.

There is one party that thinks government is useful to some degree. There is another party that wants hardly any government at all. That is the issue, however you clothe it.
