David Gregory Calls Out Sen. McConnell Over Admin's 'Culture Of Intimidation': No 'Fact To Back It Up'

On Sunday, Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) took to Meet the Press to respond to the IRS scandal that has been dominating the news cycle recently. While conceding that we don't yet know all the facts surrounding the matter, he went after President Obama's administration for a "culture of intimidation" — a point challenged by host David Gregory.

Gregory questioned why McConnell doesn’t accept the report that while the IRS made mistakes, there’s no evidence of an underlying political motivation. 

McConnell replied “there is a culture of intimidation throughout the administration,” and the IRS scandal “is just the more recent example” of it. “It’s no wonder that the agents in the IRS sorta get the message,” McConnell added. “The president demonizes his opponents.”
“That’s a leap that can you make as argument, but you don’t have fact to back it up,” Gregory countered. “You can talk about a culture — do you have any evidence that the president of the United States directed what you call a culture of intimidation at the IRS to target political opponents?”

“I don’t think we know what the facts are,” the senator replied, prompting Gregory to quip, “But that hasn’t stopped you from accusing.”
