We used to go bass & trout fishing too.
Once I caught the largest fish of the day, a yellow perch, we were in Vermont & ate it for dinner ;))

I used to be a bass fisherman of some renown locally (mostly with my grandkids). Bass fishermen are generally "conservatives". The thing that amazes me about them is that they don't think the state should charge em a fee for using the boat ramps and parking areas around the lakes. Nor do they want the lakes sold off to private companies who would do the same plus charge them for fishing on the lakes. They do expect well functioning ramps and security in the parking areas. I guess it is true more times than not that socialism is when somebody else is getting a gubmint benefit.
